Regular Season Round 12: Athletic Sofia - CSKA 81-78

Fifth-ranked CSKA (3-8) gave a tough game to second ranked Athletic Sofia (8-2) on Sunday. Athletic Sofia managed to secure only three-point victory 81-78. However their fans expected easier game. Athletic Sofia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to CSKA's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Stanislav Slaveykov (198-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Plamen Donchev (187-92) who added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Athletic Sofia players scored in double figures. Athletic Sofia's coach Nikolay Hadjiev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was forward Georgi Kenderov (196-99) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and swingman Ivaylo Tonev (198-99) scored 18 points and 4 steals. Newly promoted Athletic Sofia maintains second position in A with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader BUBA. CSKA at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Athletic Sofia are looking forward to face Vidabasket (#4) in Vidin in the next round. CSKA will play at home against Balkan 2 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
