Regular Season Round 11: Kharkivski Sokoly - Mariupol 68-67

A very close game took place in Kharkiv between Kharkivski Sokoly and Mariupol. Seventh ranked Kharkivski Sokoly (4-8) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Mariupol (6-6). Kharkivski Sokoly managed to escape with a 1-point win 68-67 on Sunday evening. Mariupol was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Kharkivski Sokoly dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Mariupol's 20 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Mariupol 43-23 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Andrii Shalamov (202-96) who scored 23 points. Forward Roman Olkhovskyi (196-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Mark Bodnar (193-98) produced 15 points and 5 assists and guard Vladyslav Ryzhov (190-94) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Kharkivski Sokoly maintains seventh place with 4-8 record. Mariupol at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Kharkivski Sokoly will again meet at home higher ranked Mariupol (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mariupol will have a break next round.
