Regular Season Round 14: Hamburg - Trier 70-72

The most important game in the last round took place in Hamburg between third ranked Hamburg (9-5) and eleventh ranked Gladiators (6-8) on Monday night. Hamburg was edged by Gladiators in a tough game at home 70-72. Strangely Hamburg outrebounded Gladiators 45-33 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Hamburg helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Jamaican-Canadian forward Jermaine Bucknor (201-83, college: Richmond) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Simon Schmitz (188-90) contributed with 13 points and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Jonathon Williams (198-90, college: Wagner) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds and center Justin Raffington (205-91, college: Florida Atlantic) added 10 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Hamburg. Five Hamburg players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gladiators moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Hanau and Chemnitz. Hamburg at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Gladiators is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Baunach (#16) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hamburg will play against the league's second-placed SC Rasta Vechta (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
