Regular Season Round 10: CSU Sibiu - Politehnica Iasi 87-66
Date: December 20, 2017
Very expected game when 11th ranked Politehnica Iasi (1-9) was rolled over on the road by fourth ranked CSU Sibiu (8-3) 87-66. The game was mostly controlled by CSU Sibiu. Politehnica Iasi was better in second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CSU Sibiu dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Politehnica Iasi's 34. They outrebounded Politehnica Iasi 53-36 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American power forward Chris Cooper (205-90, college: ODU) notched a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and the other American import forward Lawrence Kinnard (203-86, college: UAB) supported him with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Four CSU Sibiu players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by American-Nigerian guard Mike Balogun (188-91, college: Arkansas Tech) did not help to save the game for Politehnica Iasi. Belarusian-Moldovan Vladislav Solopa (202-95) added 12 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. CSU Sibiu have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Politehnica Iasi keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. CSU Sibiu's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked CS Dinamo Bucuresti (#12) at home and are hoping to win another game. Politehnica Iasi will play against Targu Mures and hope to win that game.
