Regular Season Round 14: Arkadia - Oberwart 86-73

Very expected game in Traiskirchen where 6th ranked Gunners Oberwart (5-7) was defeated by second ranked Arkadia Lions (9-3) 86-73 on Tuesday. Arkadia Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Gunners Oberwart's 22 and made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Gunners Oberwart 36-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. Arkadia Lions looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Benedikt Danek (176-86) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. Bosnian-Croatian power forward Jozo Brkic (211-86, agency: PEPI SPORT) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American guard Louis Dabney (190-93, college: Tulane) produced 21 points and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Aaron Ross (203-92, college: Texas Tech) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Arkadia Lions maintains second position with 9-3 record having just two points less than leader Gmunden. Gunners Oberwart lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Arkadia Lions will meet Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (#5) on the road in the next round. Gunners Oberwart will play against Kapfenberg Bulls and hope to secure a win.
