Regular Season Round 13: Alba Iulia - Olimpia Brasov 66-70

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Alba Iulia (6-6) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Olimpia Brasov (6-5) 70-66 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-66. Olimpia Brasov looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Kristina Higgins (196-94, college: Baylor) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 23 rebounds for the winners and Serbian Biljana Pesovic (180-83) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American guard Jessica January (170-95, college: De Paul) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Marta Fodor (183-91) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Alba Iulia's coach Manuel A. Rodriguez tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Olimpia Brasov moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted Alba Iulia dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Olimpia Brasov will meet at home Sirius TgM (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Alba Iulia will play against the league's leader Sf.Gheorghe (#1) in Sfantu Gheorghe and hope to secure a win.
