Regular Season Round 17: Petkim - Selcuklu 92-81

An interesting game took place in Petkim where 4th placed Selcuklu (11-6) was upset on the court of seventeenth ranked Socar Petkim (4-13) 92-81 on Saturday. Socar Petkim made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Selcuklu was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Adam Smith (185-92, college: Georgia Tech) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!) for the winners and Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Socar Petkim's coach Mete Babaoglu used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American forward Will Daniels (202-86, college: Rhode Island) responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds and the former international power forward Izzet Turkyilmaz (212-90) scored 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Socar Petkim moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Samsun and Ankara DSI. Newly promoted Selcuklu dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Socar Petkim will face higher ranked Bursaspor (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Selcuklu will play against Samsun and hope to win that game.
