Regular Season Round 11: Academica - Ginasio 87-92

Not a big story in a game in Coimbra where 5th ranked Academica (5-6) was defeated by third ranked Ginasio (7-4) 92-87 on Saturday. Ginasio forced 20 Academica turnovers. Strangely Academica outrebounded Ginasio 38-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international guard Jose Costa (187-73) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The former international center Marco Goncalves (206-84) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. Russian forward Alexander Kravtsov (194-87) responded with 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and center Krasimir Pereira (195-95) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Academica's coach Ivo Rego rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ginasio moved-up to second place in South. Newly promoted Academica keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Ginasio will face Belenenses CF (#4) in Lisbona in the next round. Academica will play on the road against Moscavide and hope to win that game.
