There was no surprise in Oldenburg where 18th ranked Walter Tigers (1-16) were defeated by ninth ranked EWE Baskets (10-7) 83-75 on Sunday. EWE Baskets made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. EWE Baskets outrebounded Walter Tigers 36-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Walter Tigers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 20 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. American Barry Stewart (193-88, college: Mississippi St.) produced 21 points and 4 steals and power forward Sid-Marlon Theis (205-93) added 21 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. EWE Baskets moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Fraport SKY. Walter Tigers lost their fifth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. EWE Baskets will face Braunschweig (#13) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Walter Tigers will play against Telekom Baskets (#6) in Bonn and hope to win that game.
