Regular Season Round 13: Craiova - Targu Mures 84-69

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Targu Mures (5-6) were defeated on the road by ninth ranked Craiova (5-6) 84-69 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-69. Craiova looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Targu Mures' players. Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners and American forward Jamar Samuels (200-89, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) chipped in 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Craiova players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Szabolcs Santa (209-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Bosnian-Swedish guard Dino Pita (195-88) scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Craiova moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Targu Mures. Craiova will meet at home higher ranked Phoenix Galati (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Targu Mures will play against Steaua CSM and hope to secure a win.
