Regular Season Round 17: Mykolaiv - Budivelnyk 72-69

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Superleague took place in Mykolaiv. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Budivelnyk (13-4) to fourth ranked Mykolaiv (9-7) 72-69 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Budivelnyk. Budivelnyk trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 25-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-72 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Budivelnyk 48-36 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was center Oleksandr Kushnirov (210-92) who scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Sergei Popov (196-88, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Mykolaiv players scored in double figures. Mykolaiv's coach Vladimir Polyakh used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international power forward Maksim Sandul (207-91, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international Artur Drozdov (199-80) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Mykolaiv maintains fourth place with 9-7 record. Defending champion Budivelnyk keeps the second position with four games lost. Mykolaiv are looking forward to face Khimik (#5) in Yuzhny in the next round. Budivelnyk will play at home against Politekhnik and is hoping to win this game.
