Regular Season Round 18: Bipa Basket - Zaporizhye 86-85

Eighth-ranked Zaporizhye (2-16) was very close to win a game against sixth ranked Bipa Basket (7-10) in Odessa. Bipa Basket managed to secure only one-point victory 86-85. However their fans expected easier game. Bipa Basket made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Zaporizhye turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Zaporizhye was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Olexandr Belikov (201-92) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Klym Artamonov (185-93) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Five Bipa Basket players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Andriy Kozhemiakin (190-96, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) with 23 points and 6 assists (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international guard Oleksii Shchepkin (191-89) scored 26 points. Zaporizhye's coach Valeriy Plehanov tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bipa Basket maintains sixth position with 7-10 record. Zaporizhye lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost. Bipa Basket will play against higher ranked Mykolaiv (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Zaporizhye will play against Khimik (#5) in Yuzhny and hopes to get back on the winning track.
