Regular Season Round 17: Neptunas - Zalgiris 75-83

The game between Top Four teams took place in Klaipeda. 3rd placed host Neptunas (15-4) lost to first ranked Zalgiris (18-2) 83-75. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Neptunas. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Neptunas won second period 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Aaron White (206-92, college: Iowa) stepped up and scored 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists. Five Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Forward Edgaras Zelionis (207-89) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Simas Galdikas (203-87) scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-2 record. Neptunas at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face P.Zvaigzdes (#6) in Pasvalys in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Neptunas will play at home against Lietkabelis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
