The most exciting game of round 17 in the Liga Nationala took place in Alba Iulia. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Alba Iulia (6-10) to sixth ranked ICIM Arad (7-8) 88-86 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 2 points. Strangely Alba Iulia outrebounded ICIM Arad 35-20 including 24 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American swingman Brandi Wingate (188-91, college: Louisiana Tech) who scored 32 points and 5 rebounds. Flavia Ferenczi (175-91) chipped in 14 points and 7 assists. Four ICIM Arad players scored in double figures. American guard Jessica January (170-95, college: De Paul) produced 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and the other American import center Tyshara Fleming (193-94, college: Florida) added 26 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts. ICIM Arad maintains sixth place with 7-8 record. Alba Iulia lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. ICIM Arad are looking forward to face Sirius TgM (#9) in Targu Mures in the next round. Alba Iulia will have a break next round.
