Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Giessen 46ers (8-10) were defeated at home by sixth ranked EWE Baskets (12-7) 99-95 on Saturday. EWE Baskets made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) fired 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American point guard Mickey McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. EWE Baskets will meet at home higher ranked Telekom Baskets (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giessen 46ers will play against Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#16) and hope to secure a win.
