Regular Season Round 17: Mustangs - Rocks 81-79

Seventh-ranked Rocks (9-8) made lots of trouble for third ranked Mustangs (13-5) in Mistelbach. Mustangs managed to secure only two-point victory 81-79. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were ahead by 8 points but lost the second period ending it with a 4-point deficit before their 20-14 run, which allowed them to win the game. Mustangs shot 29 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Rocks only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Rocks 44-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. Rocks were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. Czech forward Vladimir Sismilich (202-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 9 rebounds. Czech guard Michal Semerad (190-89) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Royce Woolridge (190-92, college: Grand Canyon) answered with 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals and Italian guard Jan Nicoli (182-90) added 17 points in the effort for Rocks. Rocks' coach Joey Vickery tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mustangs have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-5 record having just two points less than leader Timberwolves. Rocks at the other side keep the seventh position with eight games lost. Mustangs will play against KOS (#8) in Klagenfurt in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rocks will play on the road against Lions in Dornbirn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
