There was no surprise in Varna where 9th ranked Spartak Pleven (1-14) was defeated by seventh ranked Cherno More (5-9) 105-99 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 54-42 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Cherno More outrebounded Spartak Pleven 41-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Sim Iliev (204-89, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized Portuguese swingman Venelin Hristov (198-95) who added 23 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) during the contest. At the losing side Belarusian center Uladzimir Krysevich (209-91) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Nikolay Marinov (174-94) scored 16 points and 8 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Cherno More maintains seventh position with 5-9 record. Loser Spartak Pleven stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Cherno More will meet higher ranked Beroe (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Spartak Pleven will play against Academik Plovdiv and hope to win that game.
