Regular Season Round 16: Steaua CSM - Craiova 90-79

There was no surprise in Bucuresti where 7th ranked Craiova (8-7) was defeated by fourth ranked Steaua CSM (12-4) 90-79 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Steaua CSM. Craiova managed to win fourth quarter 26-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Craiova 40-28 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Steaua CSM looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Steaua CSM made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian power forward Dragan Zekovic (209-87, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Brandon Taylor (178-94, college: Utah) who added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. At the losing side Croatian swingman Ivan Siriscevic (198-87, agency: PEPI SPORT) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-87) scored 11 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Steaua CSM have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Loser Craiova keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Steaua CSM will meet Phoenix Galati (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Craiova will play against Oradea and hope to secure a win.
