Regular Season Round 16: Illiabum - Barreirense 95-83

Very expected game when 11th ranked Barreirense (3-15) lost to fifth ranked Illiabum (10-9) in Ilhavo 83-95 on Saturday. Illiabum shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The winners were led by American guard Jeff Early (190-88, college: S.Illinois) who scored that evening 30 points and 5 rebounds and Serbian guard Filip Simic (185-90) supported him with 23 points and 6 assists. Illiabum's coach Pedro Nuno Monteiro used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 22 points, 7 assists and 7 steals by American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) did not help to save the game for Barreirense. His fellow American import forward Demetric Austin (201, college: Dillard) added 14 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Four Barreirense players scored in double figures. Illiabum maintains fifth position with 10-9 record. Newly promoted Barreirense keeps the eleventh place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Electrico FC. Illiabum will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Barreirense will play against Vitoria SC (#4) and hope to secure a win.
