Regular Season Round 17: AD Vagos - GDESSA 82-74

Very important is a road loss of second ranked GDESSA (14-4) against fifth ranked AD Vagos (10-7) on Saturday night. Visiting GDESSA was defeated by AD Vagos in a tough game in Vagos 74-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of GDESSA. AD Vagos made 25-of-32 charity shots (78.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 GDESSA turnovers. Strangely GDESSA outrebounded AD Vagos 56-39 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. GDESSA was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Khadijah Whittington (185-86, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Octagon Europe) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side and the former international point guard Ines Faustino (170-92) accounted for 19 points and 4 steals. AD Vagos' coach Joao Janeiro allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Ashli Payne (183-95, college: E.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) came up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 16 rebounds and Marcia Costa (173-89) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for GDESSA in the defeat. AD Vagos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CAB Madeira. Defending champion GDESSA keeps the second position with four games lost. AD Vagos will play against Benfica (#6) in Lisbona in the next round. GDESSA will play at home against Ovarense (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
