Regular Season Round 18: Cluj Napoca - Sf.Gheorghe 77-68

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Sf.Gheorghe (16-1) on the court of fifth ranked Cluj Napoca on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Cluj Napoca 77-68. It ended at the same time the 16-game winning streak of Sf.Gheorghe. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sf.Gheorghe won third quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cluj Napoca made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while Sf.Gheorghe only scored three points from the stripe. 27 personal fouls committed by Sf.Gheorghe helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Amanda Thompson (178-87, college: Oklahoma) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). Bosnian center Aida Kalusic (189-87) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Tyaunna Marshall (175-92, college: Georgia Tech) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and international point guard Annemarie Godri-Parau (172-84) added 17 points and 8 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Sf.Gheorghe. Sf.Gheorghe's coach Zoran Mikes rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Cluj Napoca (9-8) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Sf.Gheorghe still keeps top position with one game lost.
