There was a small surprise when seventh ranked CAB Madeira (9-9) crushed 5th ranked Illiabum (10-9) in Ilhavo 86-61 on Saturday. CAB Madeira dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Illiabum's 28. CAB Madeira had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American guard Khalen Cumberlander (190, college: Cent.Conn.St.) who scored that evening 19 points and 6 assists and naturalized Brazilian Joao Gallina (192-94) supported him with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. Even 9 points and 8 rebounds by naturalized Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (202-91) did not help to save the game for Illiabum. American guard Jeff Early (190-88, college: S.Illinois) added 12 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for lost side. CAB Madeira moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ovarense. Loser Illiabum keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. CAB Madeira will meet at home Galitos-Barreiro (#8) in the next round. Illiabum will have a break next round.
