There was no surprise in Ulm where 15th ranked OrangeAcademy (5-17) was crushed by second ranked Crailsheim Merlins (19-3) 103-76 on Sunday. Crailsheim Merlins shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 68.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American point guard Frank Turner (178-88, college: Canisius, agency: Inception Sports) fired 17 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. The other American import guard Chase Griffin (190-83, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. Five Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Power forward Till Pape (204-97) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and center Nicolas Bretzel (206-99) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Crailsheim Merlins have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 19-3 record behind leader Vechta. OrangeAcademy lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom place with 17 games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face Karlsruhe PS (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. OrangeAcademy will play against Phoenix Hagen (#7) and hope to win that game.
