Regular Season Round 20: Lietuvos rytas - Zalgiris 75-68

Date: February 11, 2018
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Zalgiris (20-3) in Vilnius on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Lietuvos rytas (19-4) 75-68. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Zalgiris. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Travis Peterson (208-85, college: Samford) who helped to win the game recording 21 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) who added 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Lietuvos rytas' coach Rimas Kurtinaitis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) responded with 16 points and French swingman Axel Toupane (197-92, agency: BeoBasket) scored 14 points. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 19-4 record behind leader Zalgiris. Defending champion Zalgiris still keeps top place with three games lost. Lietuvos rytas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Vytautas (#10) in Prienai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris will play at home against Dzukija (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
