Very important is a home loss of second ranked Budivelnyk (16-8) against eighth ranked Zaporizhye (5-19) on Saturday night. Host Budivelnyk was defeated by Zaporizhye in a tough game in Kyiv 78-84. Budivelnyk was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 45-38 second half run of Zaporizhye. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Budivelnyk's 28 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a good game for the former international guard Oleksii Shchepkin (191-89) who led his team to a victory with 22 points. Guard Yuriy Kondrakov (190-96) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Zaporizhye's coach Valeriy Plehanov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Vitaliy Zotov (188-97, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) replied with 15 points and 9 assists and international swingman Pavlo Krutous (196-92, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for Budivelnyk. Five Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. Zaporizhye maintains eighth position with 5-19 record. Defending champion Budivelnyk keeps the second place with eight games lost. They share the position with Cherkasy. Zaporizhye will play against higher ranked Bipa Basket (#5) in Odessa in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Budivelnyk will play on the road against Politekhnik in Kharkiv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
