Regular Season Round 18: Alges - Vitoria SC 50-58

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Alges (3-15) were defeated at home by tenth ranked Vitoria SC (6-13) 58-50 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard Carissa Crutchfield (173-92, college: Arizona) who scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import forward Trudy Armstead (185-91, college: Northwestern St.) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Angolan forward Artemis Afonso (175-93) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and guard Marcia Carvalho (170-92) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Vitoria SC moved-up to ninth place. Alges lost eleventh consecutive game. Alges at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Vitoria SC will face higher ranked Olivais (#8) in Coimbra in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Alges will play on the road against Benfica (#7) in Lisbona and hope to win that game.
