Regular Season Round 18: Cukurova - Adana ASKI 84-63

Date: February 18, 2018
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Mersin: Cukurova (#1) and Adana ASKI (#4). Cukurova (9-9) smashed visiting Adana ASKI (2-15) by 21 points 84-63. Cukurova forced 19 Adana ASKI turnovers and outrebounded them 35-18 including 21 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Diamond Deshields (185-95, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) notched 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Ukrainian swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) supported her with 14 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even 13 points and 6 rebounds by Russian forward Marina Bas (194-85) did not help to save the game for Adana ASKI. American center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) added 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Cukurova maintains first position with 9-9 record, which they share with Abdullah Gul. Adana ASKI lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with 15 games lost. Cukurova will meet Canik Belediye (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Adana ASKI will play against Bornova and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
