Second Stage Round 6: UE Varna - Shumen 92-35

Bottom-ranked Shumen (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 92-35 loss to second ranked UE Varna (5-1) in Varna. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. They held Shumen to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 57.4 percent accuracy of the winners. UE Varna forced 24 Shumen turnovers and outrebounded them 49-24 including a 41-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Shumen's players. Power forward Nikolay Georgiev (205-95) notched 20 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) to lead the effort and Nikolay Nikolov (201-97) supported him with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Even 11 points and 6 rebounds by swingman Milen Cholakov (193-0) did not help to save the game for Shumen. Point guard Nikolay Georgiev (178-1) added 6 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. UE Varna maintains second position in A with 5-1 record having just one victory less than leader CSKA. Shumen at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. UE Varna's next round opponent will be Beroe-2 (#5) in Stara Zagora. Shumen will play at home against Chavdar and hopes to get finally their first victory.
