Rather expected game in Coimbra where 13th ranked Beira Mar (6-14) was defeated by tenth ranked Academica (11-9) 87-81. They made 24-of-27 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game, while Beira Mar only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Beira Mar 41-28 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Beira Mar was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Lawrence Coleman (190-94, college: Oneonta St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Russian forward Alexander Kravtsov (194-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American forward Andre Jackson (198, college: Bowie St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and Joao Pinto (186-2) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Beira Mar. Beira Mar's coach Carlos Cabral rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Academica have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Academica maintains tenth position in Places 9-16 with 11-9 record. Beira Mar at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourteenth place with 14 games lost. Academica will play against Vasco (#12) in Porto in the next round. Beira Mar will have a break next round.
