Regular Season Round 26: Fortuna - Sirenos 65-63

The most exciting game of round 26 in the LMKL took place in Klaipeda. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas (16-5) to fifth ranked Fortuna (11-12) 65-63 on Tuesday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas outrebounded Fortuna 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Forward Sandra Baliutaviciute (182-81) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. The former international guard Andra Gabalyte (179-80, college: Liberty) contributed with 15 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Fortuna players scored in double figures. Center Ieva Simkute (191-89) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and international guard Dovile Saurazaite (174-92) added 15 points, 5 assists and 5 steals in the effort for Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas. Fortuna moved-up to fourth place. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Fortuna will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas will play on the road against Siauliai-Univ. and is hoping to win this game.
