Regular Season Round 18: Oradea - UBT Cluj Napoca 90-83

There was a change at the Liga Nationala leadership position after last games. Round 18 most important game was a defeat of league's leader UBT Cluj Napoca (14-4). They were defeated by fourth ranked Oradea (13-5) 90-83 on Friday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But UBT Cluj Napoca won third quarter 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely UBT Cluj Napoca outrebounded Oradea 42-20 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international swingman Andrei Mandache (191-87) scored 27 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Lithuanian point guard Vaidas Kariniauskas (197-93) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: BeoBasket) with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and Slovenian Miha Lapornik (194-93) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four UBT Cluj Napoca players scored in double figures. Oradea moved-up to third place, which they share with BC Timisoara. Defending champion UBT Cluj Napoca still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by CSU Sibiu who have the same record. UBT Cluj Napoca will play next round against Steaua CSM trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Oradea will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked BC Timisoara on the road.
