Regular Season Round 38: KTU - Taurages 59-80

Rather expected game when 12th ranked KTU (7-30) was smashed by tenth ranked Taurages (18-20) in Kaunas 80-59 on Saturday. Taurages shot 23 for 32 from the free-throw line, while KTU only scored five points from the stripe. Taurages forced 22 KTU turnovers. Swingman Paulius Kleiza (194-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Paulius Morkeliunas (202-85, college: LIU Brooklyn, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Taurages players scored in double figures. Point guard Matas Sapiega (178-90) replied with 10 points and 8 assists and point guard Medas Kuprijanovas (195-96) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for KTU. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Taurages have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Telsiai. KTU lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 30 games lost. Taurages will face higher ranked Neptunas-Akv. (#3) in Klaipeda in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. KTU will play at home against Delikatesas (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
