Regular Season Round 23: Giessen 46ers - Brose Bask. 96-105

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Brose Baskets (11-10) defeated on the road 10th ranked Giessen 46ers (11-11) 105-96 on Sunday. Brose Baskets made 31-of-33 free shots (93.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brose Baskets made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American-Italian guard Daniel Hackett (199-87, college: USC) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American forward Dorell Wright (206-85) helped adding 18 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Brose Baskets' coach Luca Banchi used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American center John Bryant (210-87, college: Santa Clara) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import swingman Austin Hollins (195-91, college: Minnesota) scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to tenth place. Loser Giessen 46ers dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Brose Baskets will meet higher ranked ratiopharm Ulm (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giessen 46ers will play against s Oliver Baskets in Wuerzburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
