Very important is a road loss of second ranked GDESSA (16-5) against tenth ranked Vitoria SC (8-13) on Sunday night. Visiting GDESSA was defeated by Vitoria SC in a tough game in Guimaraes 67-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of GDESSA. Strangely GDESSA outrebounded Vitoria SC 45-32 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Carissa Crutchfield (173-92, college: Arizona) who scored that evening 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Trudy Armstead (185-91, college: Northwestern St.) supported her with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Even a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds by American forward Ashli Payne (183-95, college: E.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) did not help to save the game for GDESSA. The former international guard Joana Bernardeco (168-90) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Vitoria SC have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ovarense. Defending champion GDESSA keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Lombos Quinta. Vitoria SC will play against higher ranked Benfica (#6) in Lisbona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. GDESSA will play on the road against Academico FC (#11) in Porto and hopes to get back on the winning track.
