Regular Season Round 24: Kyiv Basket - Khimik-2 57-105
Date: March 4, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Kyiv Basket (8-14) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Khimik-2 (8-10) 105-57. The game without a history. Khimik-2 led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Kyiv Basket to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Khimik-2 dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kyiv Basket's 30. They outrebounded Kyiv Basket 49-30 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Khimik-2 players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Kyiv Basket's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The winners were led by swingman Vitaliy Shortskiy (194-0) who scored that evening 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Andrii Voinalovych (207-99) supported him with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Five Khimik-2 players scored in double figures. Even 11 points and 7 rebounds by forward Evgen Bolotsenko (195-95) did not help to save the game for Kyiv Basket. Forward Kristian Lugobtsov (197-94) added 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimik-2 moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted Kyiv Basket dropped to the fifth position with 14 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
