Regular Season Round 20: UBT Cluj Napoca - Craiova 88-82
Date: March 10, 2018
Very predictable result when second ranked UBT Cluj Napoca (15-4) won against at home 7th ranked Craiova (9-10) 88-82 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-16. But Craiova won second period 25-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by international point guard Giordan Watson (178-85, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: BeoBasket) who scored that evening 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Senegalese power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette) supported him with 12 points and 11 rebounds. UBT Cluj Napoca's coach Mihai Silvasan used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even 16 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Jamar Samuels (200-89, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) did not help to save the game for Craiova. Croatian-Bosnian guard Ivan Mikulic (194-91, agency: Mansfield and Associates) added 11 points and 7 assists for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second position with 15-4 record behind leader CSU Sibiu. Loser Craiova dropped to the eighth place with ten games lost. UBT Cluj Napoca will meet Phoenix Galati (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Craiova will play against BC Timisoara and hope to secure a win.
