Very expected game when 10th ranked Timba Timosoara (5-14) was smashed by fifth ranked Steaua CSM (13-6) in Bucuresti 75-43 on Saturday. The game without a history. Steaua CSM led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Timba Timosoara to just 6 points in first quarter. Steaua CSM dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Timba Timosoara's 20. They outrebounded Timba Timosoara 44-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Serbian power forward Dragan Zekovic (209-87, agency: BeoBasket) who scored that evening 13 points and 6 rebounds and Slovenian guard Luka Lapornik (195-88, agency: PEPI SPORT) supported him with 13 points. Even 7 points and 9 rebounds by Serbian forward Goran Ostojic (206-91) did not help to save the game for Timba Timosoara. Point guard Liviu Rotariu (192-93) added 11 points for the guests. Steaua CSM maintains fifth position with 13-6 record. Newly promoted Timba Timosoara keeps the tenth place with 14 games lost. Steaua CSM will meet Pitesti (#6) on the road in the next round. Timba Timosoara will play against Oradea (#4) and hope to secure a win.
