Regular Season Round 15: Tavriyska Zirka - HAI 61-92

Rather expected game in Kherson where bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zirka (0-22) was rolled over by fifth ranked HAI (9-14) 92-61 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. HAI dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Tavriyska Zirka's 30. HAI forced 28 Tavriyska Zirka turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HAI made 7 blocks. Tavriyska Zirka was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Nataliya Pokrovenko (170-93) who scored 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 steals. Olena Vergun chipped in 19 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. Four HAI players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Marharyta Hliebova (187-96) who recorded 7 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Olga Nazarenko (168-88) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Tavriyska Zirka's coach Oleksiy Davidov gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Despite that victory HAI went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Vinnystkiye M. Tavriyska Zirka lost their twenty second game in a row. They still close the standings. HAI will face Vinnystkiye M. (#6) in Vinnytsia in the next round. Tavriyska Zirka will play at home against the league's leader Kyiv Basket and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
