Regular Season Round 15: Tavriyska Zirka - Chaika 54-79

Bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zirka (0-22) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 79-54 loss to fifth ranked Chaika (10-11) in Kherson on Sunday evening. They also forced 20 Tavriyska Zirka turnovers and outrebounded them 53-36 including 22 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Olena Popova (170-1) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The former international swingman Iryna Tsekova (178-78) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four Chaika players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Marharyta Hliebova (187-96) who recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Lolita Sysoyeva (172-95) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Chaika. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Dynamo-NPU. Tavriyska Zirka lost their twenty second game in a row. They still close the standings. Chaika will face Rivne (#5) on the road in the next round. Tavriyska Zirka will play against the league's leader Kyiv Basket and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
