Regular Season Round 15: Tavriyska Zirka - Chaika 66-80

Bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zirka (0-22) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 80-66 loss to fifth ranked Chaika (10-11) in Kherson. The game without a history. Chaika led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Chaika forced 20 Tavriyska Zirka turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for the former international swingman Iryna Tsekova (178-78) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Veronika Kosmach (177-1) accounted for 18 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winning side. Chaika's coach Katerina Klivenok allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Marharyta Hliebova (187-96) came up with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Anastasiya Andriyets (186-91) added 17 points respectively for Tavriyska Zirka in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Chaika. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Dynamo-NPU. Tavriyska Zirka lost their twenty second game in a row. They still close the standings. Chaika's next round opponent will be Rivne (#5) on the road. Tavriyska Zirka will play against the league's leader Kyiv Basket and hopes to get finally their first victory.
