Second Stage Round 9: Sanjoanense - Ginasio 72-58

No shocking result in a game in Sao Joao where fourth ranked Sanjoanense (14-9) defeated 7th ranked Ginasio (10-13) 72-58 on Saturday. They outrebounded Ginasio 47-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. Forward Pedro Azevedo (193-81) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) chipped in 13 points and 16 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Pedro Marques (173-95) with 25 points and the former international center Marco Goncalves (206-84) scored 7 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sanjoanense moved-up to third place in Places 1-8, which they share with Maia Basket. Loser Ginasio keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. Sanjoanense will meet at home Maia Basket (#4) in the next round. Ginasio will play against Benfica B in Lisbona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
