Fifth-ranked Mersin BSB (13-8) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Yakin Dogu (19-2) on Sunday. The visitors from Istanbul managed to secure only two-point victory 58-56. However their fans expected much easier game. Yakin Dogu looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for Hungarian-American point guard Courtney Vandersloot (173-89, college: Gonzaga) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 14 assists. American center Jantel Lavender (191-88, college: Ohio St.) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Bria Hartley (173-92, college: Connecticut) answered with 23 points and 6 assists and the other American import center Krystal Thomas (195-89, college: Duke) added 8 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Mersin BSB. Defending champion maintains first place with 19-2 record. Mersin BSB at the other side dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Botas. Yakin Dogu are looking forward to face Bornova (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mersin BSB will play against the league's second-placed Hatay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
