Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Mainz (8-16) was rolled over at home by second ranked Speyer (22-2) 115-73 on Sunday. Speyer dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 34. They outrebounded Mainz 45-26 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Speyer looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard Jordan Rezendes (188, college: Mass.-Dartmouth) scored 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Spanish center Eduard Arques (202-94) chipped in 29 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Speyer players scored in double figures. Swingman Philipp Schoen (196-87) responded with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Maximilian Befort (199-94) scored 16 points. Mainz's coach Christian Zander gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Speyer have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position in South-West with 22-2 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Muenster. Mainz lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 16 games lost. Speyer will face Kaiserslautern (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Mainz will play against Kronberg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
