Regular Season Round 23: Istanbul Univ. - Yakin Dogu 42-98

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Yakin Dogu (#1) and Istanbul Uni (#6). Istanbul Uni was crushed at home by 56 points 42-98 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Yakin Dogu dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Istanbul Uni's 26. They outrebounded Istanbul Uni 42-24 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Yakin Dogu especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. It was a great evening for French center Sandrine Gruda (193-87, agency: 1andBox Sports Agency) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American center Jantel Lavender (191-88, college: Ohio St.) helped adding 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Yakin Dogu players scored in double figures. American guard Rebekah Gardner (185-90, college: UCLA) responded with 9 points and 7 rebounds and Nigerian-American center Aisha Mohammed (191-85, college: Virginia) scored 7 points and 8 rebounds. Istanbul Uni's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Yakin Dogu have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-2 record. Loser Istanbul Uni keeps the sixth position with 19 games lost. Yakin Dogu's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Besiktas.
