Regular Season Round 25: Siauliai - Zalgiris 93-90

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Zalgiris (24-4) on the court of sixth ranked Siauliai on Monday night. Visitors were edged by Siauliai 93-90. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Zalgiris. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won fourth quarter 26-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Forward Donatas Sabeckis (197-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 assists for the winners. Four Siauliai players scored in double figures. American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 25 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and international guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) added 18 points in the effort for Zalgiris. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Siauliai (11-17) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with P.Zvaigzdes. Defending champion Zalgiris still keeps top position with four games lost. Siauliai is looking forward to face Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round. Zalgiris will play on the road against Dzukija (#8) in Alytus and is hoping to win this game.
