Regular Season Round 27: Zwickau - Jena II 73-95

There was no surprise in Zwickau where 14th ranked GGZ Baskets (1-23) were crushed by twelfth ranked Jena II (8-16) 95-73 on Saturday. Jena II dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to GGZ Baskets' 30 and made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded GGZ Baskets 43-29 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American power forward Justin Smith (201-87, college: Hawaii-Hilo) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Marco Rahn (201-98) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Jena II's coach Christopher Schreiber felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Hendrik Bellscheidt (193-90) who recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and center Uwe Kupfer-Zwingelberg (208-81) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four GGZ Baskets players scored in double figures. Jena II moved-up to tenth place in South-East, which they share with Herzogenaurach. GGZ Baskets lost their twenty third game in a row. They keep the fourteenth position with 23 games lost. Jena II will face league's second-placed Gotha II at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. GGZ Baskets will play against Herzogenaurach (#10) and hope to win that game.
