An interesting game where host Furstenfeld Panthers (#8) won against 5th ranked Vienna with 16-point difference 92-76 on Thursday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 52-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Furstenfeld Panthers outrebounded Vienna 36-23 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Croatian Marko Car (188-85) scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Wesley Gordon (206-94, college: Colorado) chipped in 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was Czech center Jiri Hubalek (208-82, college: Iowa St., agency: Interperformances) with 22 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Stjepan Stazic (199-78) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Four Furstenfeld Panthers and five Vienna players scored in double figures. Furstenfeld Panthers have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 9-20 record. Loser Vienna keeps the fifth place with 15 games lost. Furstenfeld Panthers will meet higher ranked Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vienna will play against UBSC Graz and hope to secure a win.
