Second Stage Round 5: Barreirense - Electrico FC 73-80

Everything could happen in Barreiro at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Electrico FC and 11th ranked Barreirense had identical 4-22 record. But Barreirense was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Ponte de Sor 80-73 on Saturday night. Electrico FC outrebounded Barreirense 43-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Tiago Pinto (187-88) who scored 24 points and 4 assists. Cape Verdean forward Kevin Coronel (197-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Demetric Austin (201, college: Dillard) produced 12 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Barreirense players scored in double figures. Barreirense's coach Antonio Ferreira let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Electrico FC (5-22) moved-up to eleventh place in Places 7-12. Newly promoted Barreirense dropped to the bottom. Electrico FC will face higher ranked Lusitania (#9) in Angra in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barreirense will play on the road against Terceira in Angra Heroismo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
