Second Stage Round 12: Maia Basket - Esgueira 73-71

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Proliga took place in Maia. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-best Esgueira / Oli (16-9) to third ranked Maia Basket (16-10) 73-71 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Joao Lucas (195-96) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Point guard Goncalo Madureira (185-98) chipped in 20 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Dee Franklin (196, college: Ft.Valley St.) who recorded 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and guard Samuel Loio (180-89) added 9 points and 4 assists respectively. Esgueira / Oli's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maia Basket maintains third position in Places 1-8 with 16-10 record having nine points less than leader Imortal. Esgueira / Oli at the other side keeps the second place with nine games lost. Maia Basket is looking forward to face league's leader Imortal in Albufeira in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Esgueira / Oli will play on the road against Ginasio in Figueira da Foz and is hoping to win this game.
