Second Stage Round 7: Steaua CSM - CSU Sibiu 77-73

Top ranked CSU Sibiu (23-7) recorded its seventh loss in Bucuresti on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Steaua CSM (21-9) 77-73. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Nationala. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But CSU Sibiu won third quarter 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely CSU Sibiu outrebounded Steaua CSM 36-23 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by CSU Sibiu helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Brandon Taylor (178-94, college: Utah) fired 10 points and 8 assists for the winners. Power forward Randal Falker (201-85, college: S.Illinois) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Steaua CSM's coach Jukka Toijala used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Power forward Chris Cooper (205-90, college: ODU) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and guard Marcel Davis (188-94, college: Utah Valley) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Steaua CSM moved-up to second place in Nationala. CSU Sibiu at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. Steaua CSM are looking forward to face BC Timisoara (#5) at home in the next round. CSU Sibiu will play against Oradea (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
